- Part of the spectrum ranging from 185 to 450 nanometers. UVi has both a negative and positive influence on the sign industry. When UV strikes certain surfaces, such as the phosphorsi in neoni and fluorescent tubes, it is transformed into visible light. UV is also used for curingi some screen printingi inks. UV is also the primei cause of pigmenti failure in some paints and vinyli, especially red. Synonyms: Ultraviolet Light
- UV-Curingsearch for term
- In certain inkjet printers, the process in which a lamp emitting ultraviolet (UVi) light is used to transform monomeri-based liquid inks (deposited onto a substratei via the printheadi) into polymeri-based solid inks. Commonly used process in many digital flatbed printers. The ink chemistry employed cani be either free radical UV curingi (common) or cationic UV curing (not yet widely used).
